No more than 2,000 fans filled up the Palladium Theater in Worcester, MA, last Tuesday for The Maine’s performance of their U.S. Modern Nostalgia tour. Their headline tour consisted of the band’s two past albums performed in their entirety.

The American rock band brought nothing less of an energetic yet intimate performance for their fans with the songs off their 2015 album “American Candy,” and their most recent 2017 album, “Lovely, Little, Lonely.”

"It always felt like these two albums were made to be listened to from front to back. We are excited to play them for you in just that way. Two albums. One night," their Facebook post reads. "Thank you for making the past few years so incredible. We can't wait to see you all this fall.”

Concert goers began to fill the theater around 6 p.m., rushing to get their Maine merchandise once inside the venue. Hats, posters, t-shirts and hoodies with the band’s logo and tour dates were being sold to fans.

It was only an hour later that the first opening act, Night Riots, came onto the stage. Performing just 5 songs, the band brought an alternative rock style of music to the crowd, almost to a similar style as of The Killers.

Following Night Riots was the second opening act of the night, Dreamers. This American rock trio is new to the pop punk scene, but seemed to grabbed the attention of the crowd rather easily.

Shortly after 9 p.m., anticipating fans of The Maine were finally greeted with the presence of all five band members. Dressed in all white suites, the band kicked off their night with their opening song, “Don’t Come Down.”

Energetic smiles were plastered on the faces of fans spread out throughout the crowd, as waves of jumping, singing and picture taking were happening all in unison.

Lead singer John O’Callaghan spoke out to the crowd, telling fans to “Put your phones away. I want to see everyone’s face look this way and sing this song with me.” Once he grabbed the attention from the audience, the whole theater was singing one of the band’s lead singles titled “Bad Behavior” all in sync.

Slowing things down a bit from the previous up-tempo single from “Lovely, Little Lonely,” The Maine switches to their first album “American Candy,” performing a song of more distinct emotion and of a slower tempo.

The song “24 Floors” is one of the band’s more intimate tracks, touching on the heavy topic of suicide.

“This song is for everyone who thought they couldn’t live to see tomorrow. I just want you to know that it does get better, and that you are strong enough to make it to the next day,” O’Callaghan said. “Music taught me that.”

With dimmed lighting and just a single guitar line, the band sings along with the crowd of the lyrics, “You don't wanna die tonight, take one more breath to clear your mind. Every moment's relevant, bittersweet and delicate. Tomorrow may not come again.”

Finishing up the show with the rest of the tracks on “American Candy,” the band closes the show with a crowd favorite of “Another Night on Mars.” All five members make their way to the front of the stage side by side, to sing the last remaining lines of the song before exiting the stage.

With only just a handful of shows left for the Modern Nostalgia tour, The Maine continues to put on a heartfelt, dedicated and rememberable show for all fans each night.
