It is no secret that the last few weeks of college can take a toll on you, especially the days gearing up to finals week.
Many of us students are bombarded with final papers, projects and exams for every course. With a high amount of stress and an overwhelming feeling like giving up, though it may seem impossible to get through this time with a clear head, there are many steps you can take to help ease this stress. It is time to put the Netflix binging aside and get down to business. Here are a few tips to help get you through the final stretch as easily as possible:
1. Organize all assignment and exam due dates.
The first step to getting through the end of the semester alive is through organization. Making sure you have collected all the due dates for any final assignments and exams is the first place to start in order to stay organized and on top of your work.
2. Buy a planner if you haven't already.
Now that you have your due dates collected, the next step is to write them down somewhere where you will not forget. If you follow this very simple step, you are less likely to forget what you have to do and stay on track with each assignment. It will feel great to cross each assignment off your list once you have completed it or completed studying.
3. Create a complete study guide.
Once you have an idea of what is going to be on your exam, make sure to create a study guide for each class to help you follow along while you are actually studying. This will help you create a game plan of what material you need to focus on and what material you do not.
4. Highlight your struggling topics on your study guide.
Highlighting and/or making note of the material that you struggle with the most will give you a better idea of what you have to go back to and put more review into. This will help you when studying in the long run, helping you focus on the areas where you struggle the most. This will ultimately make you feel more comfortable once taking the exam.
5. Start studying ahead of schedule.
Waiting until the last minute to study will do anything but help you. It is important to start studying well in advance of your exam in order to give you the most amount of time possible to prepare to take your test. You will thank yourself in the end when you're not staying up rather late the night before your exam trying to cram all the material into your brain.
6. Get enough sleep.
Although it may seem like you have never-ending work to do, getting the proper amount of sleep is the best thing you can do for yourself. Even though pulling all-nighters may seem very tempting, not getting the proper amount of sleep can be very detrimental to you, as well as your grades. Lack of sleep can get you sick, which is the last thing you need during finals week.
7. Create a study schedule to follow.
Creating a study schedule to follow will help you plan out which days to study for what class and when. This will help you stay organized and avoid feeling overwhelmed for which classes to study for.
8. Quiz yourself.
Turning the material into questions so you can help familiarize yourself with the type of experience you will have during the exam is the best way to study. It will help ease your mind beforehand and get a feel of what to expect when you walk through the classroom door.
9. Avoid social media during your study hours.
Many students tend to get easily distracted by their phones. The convenience of having several social media platforms in the palm of our hands can distract us from getting work done. Convincing yourself to get things done before checking your Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and Snapchat, is the first step in getting much studying done. Deleting these apps temporarily will go a very long way.
10. Don't forget to eat.
Although this may seem like an easy step, it can be rather easy to forget to eat when you feel swamped with work to do. Don't let your stress cause you to eat poorly. Your body needs the proper nutrition to perform its absolute best, especially during these more than stressful times.
